Job Description
We are seeking a collaborative and detail oriented Senior Scientist to join our Preclinical Histology Core. You will develop and execute new histology based-assays for preclinical research across all of our therapeutic areas. This work will take place in a core facility using groundbreaking histotechnologies, automation at major workflow steps, imaging instruments, and software. In this role, you will also develop novel methods to power exploratory research including highly multiplexed IHC/ISH staining techniques and building image data repositories to enable quantitative analyses and machine learning data mining efforts. As a Senior Scientist, a typical day may include:
Independently designing and executing experiments planned with the histology group and requesting therapeutic group
Selecting, screening, optimizing, and validating antibodies and ISH probes.
Developing and driving histology-based assays including immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence (IF), in-situ hybridization (ISH, e.g. RNAScope), IF multiplex panels, and specialized histochemical stains using stainers similar to Ventana Discovery Ultra, Leica Bond, or Leica Spectra.
Performing routine experiments using LIMS and automated equipment.
Using histological techniques including grossing, fixation, decalcification, embedding, for both paraffin and cryo sectioning
Maintaining lab operations including organizing and ordering materials and reagents required for studies, overseeing histology equipment, and maintaining online and physical records of data.
Creating of expert-level written reports and verbal communications for peers, management, and large groups.
Working closely with team members to coordinate and troubleshoot multiple experiments, accommodate changing priorities and timelines, and provide updates on the progress of projects.

To be considered for this role, you must have minimum of a Ph.D. and 0-3+ years or a BS/MS degree and 8-10+ years of relevant pre-clinical histology experience. Extensive expertise with ISH and IHC assays is required. Experience with automated stainers (LeicaBond and Ventana) is highly desirable. We need someone with have solid knowledge in basic mouse anatomy. Experience with pathology assessments and/or viral vectors is a plus. Must have experience with thinking critically about experimental design.
